Makapu'u Ridge might be the best beginner level hike on Oahu, Hawaii

Makapu'u Ridge on the Southeast Coast of Oahu is one of the best all around hikes on the island.  It's good for groups of all ages and skill levels... and it offers so much!  There are amazing views, tide pools, pillbox bunkers, the lighthouse.... and you can hike all over the mountain.  Hikers can go off the beaten path anytime they like.  The paved trail can accommodate strollers and even bikes.  Locals sometimes jog up the mountain just to get the day started!  The views are incredible, and in the winter time, hikers are almost guaranteed to see Humpback Whales blowing and breaching just of the coast line.  On a clear day, many of the other Hawaiian Islands are visible on the horizon.  It is totally spectacular!
